  • Stories for Solstice
  • Listen:
  • Winter is the time for telling stories in many traditions. Because the days were very short and the nights were very long, it was a good time to tell stories. And you would need a good story to get you through those long nights.

So from modern Norway we have the story of Saint Lucy, and from Iceland we have the Yule, or Christmas, Cat. And from the Jewish tradition, we have Adam and the Winter Solstice, and also The Laviation.

The Iroquois people have several Solstice stories. I'm going to share with you the story of the 7 Boys, followed by Grandmother Moon

And I have a couple of spoken word pieces: "The Yule Fearies" and also "The Girl Who Married the Sun"

And we'll end with an original story from Starhawk: "A Visit to Mother Winter"

Be well. Do good. Enjoy the show!
